Google Re-Index, Blacklist Removal & Adwords

Ensuring your website is properly indexed, not blacklisted, and compliant with Google Ads policies is crucial for maintaining visibility and optimizing your online presence. This article provides an overview of the processes involved in submitting your website to Google for re-indexing, de-blacklisting, and Google Ads review, along with step-by-step instructions for each.

> Submitting a Website for Re-Indexing

Overview: Re-indexing is the process of requesting Google to crawl and update its index (Google Results Page) with the latest changes made to your website. This is especially important if you’ve made significant updates, changes in content, or improvements that you want Google to recognize promptly. For a site with spam results in the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP), submitting a re-index request is best way to clear the spam results (provided SiteLock has cleaned the offending malware).

Steps to Submit for Re-Indexing:

  1. Sign In to Google Search Console:
    1. Go to https://search.google.com/search-console.
    2. Sign in with the Google account associated with your website.
  2. Select Your Property:
    1. Choose the property (website) you want to re-index from the list of your sites.
  3. Inspect the URL:
    1. Use the URL Inspection Tool found in the left sidebar.
    2. Enter the URL of the page you want to be re-indexed.
  4. Request Indexing:
    1. After inspecting the URL, you’ll see a status report. If the page is eligible for re-indexing, click the “Request Indexing” button.
    2. Google will then queue your URL for re-crawling.
  5. Monitor Progress:
    1. Check the status of your request under the “Coverage” report in Google Search Console to see when the re-indexing is completed.

NOTE: When SiteLock performs a manual malware clean where there are indexing issues with Google, they will perform steps 1-4 on your behalf.

> Requesting De-Blacklisting

Overview: If your website has been blacklisted by Google (often due to malware, spammy practices, or policy violations), it means it has been removed from Google’s index. This may mean that site visitors are unable to find your site via Google results.

Steps to Request De-Blacklisting:

  1. Identify the Issue:
    1. Confirm that your site is indeed blacklisted by checking Google Search Console under the “Security & Manual Actions” section.
    2. Review any security issues or manual actions listed.
  2. Fix the Issues:
    1. Address any issues identified, such as removing malware, fixing broken links, or cleaning up spammy content.
    2. Ensure your website is compliant with Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.
  3. Request a Review:
    1. Once you’ve resolved the issues, go back to Google Search Console.
    2. Navigate to “Security & Manual Actions” and select “Manual Actions.”
    3. Click on “Request a Review,” and provide a detailed explanation of the steps you’ve taken to resolve the issues.
  4. Wait for Google’s Response:
    1. Google will review your request and inform you of the outcome via Search Console. This process can take a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the issues.

NOTE: When SiteLock performs a manual malware clean where there are Blacklist issues with Google, they will perform steps 1-3 on your behalf.

> Submitting Your Website for Google Ads Review

Overview: Google Ads reviews ensure that your advertisements and website comply with Google’s advertising policies. This includes checking for compliance with content guidelines, user experience standards, and legal requirements.

Steps to Submit for Google Ads Review:

  1. Log In to Google Ads:
    1. Go to https://ads.google.com/.
    2. Sign in with the Google account associated with your website.
  2. Check Ad Policy Compliance:
    1. Review your ads and website to ensure they comply with Google’s Advertising Policies.
  3. Create or Edit Your Ads:
    1. Navigate to the Ads & Extensions section in your Google Ads account.
    2. Create new ads or edit existing ones to ensure they align with policy requirements.
  4. Submit for Review:
    1. Once your ads are set up or edited, they will be automatically submitted for review.
    2. Google will review your ads and website to ensure compliance. You can track the status of your ads under the Ads & Extensions tab.
  5. Address Issues:
    1. If your ads are disapproved, Google will provide feedback on the issues. Make necessary adjustments and resubmit for review. Please note that if you have recently had a SiteLock Malware Clean completed, you may need to specifically request that Google review an uncached version of your website. If Google scans a cached version of your website, some of the malware that SiteLock has removed may still be "cached" and produce false positive results.
  6. Monitor Ad Performance:
    1. After approval, keep an eye on the performance of your ads through Google Ads reports and analytics.

NOTE: When SiteLock performs a manual malware clean, we are unable to directly work with Google Adwords. We will ensure your site is malware-free, but if Google is detecting something, they need to provide details that we can review directly (such as a specific URL or page where the offending URL exists).
